Recently, the International Journal of Medical Informatics published a white paper on the proceedings of the 2012 European Summit on Trustworthy Reuse of Health Data. The meeting, which convened in Brussels, Belgium in May, brought together delegates from government, academia, patient groups, industry and the EU to examine the trustworthy reuse of health data. Keynote speeches and expert panels provided various perspectives on the issue and breakout sessions were designed to facilitate discussion among participants. Some major findings from the Summit are that the processes of health data reuse need to be transparent, and citizen and national government involvement are necessary in defining a trustworthy system.
