The National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences is a research center focused on expediting the process from breakthroughs in the lab to the clinic. Opening of the center has been delayed by funding from the government, with no clear decision in site. The foundation has developed a Plan B that would allow the center to launch under a reduced budget. Dr. Francis Collins, director of the NIH, has made it a personal goal to open the facility in time for him to run the center for the first fiscal year.
