Emily Mullin from fiercebiotechresearch.com wrote an article about an alarming finding among global research trends. Mullin introduced the article by sharing findings from an analysis of over 4 million scientific articles by James Evans and co-author Jae-Mahn Shim which found that the focus on diseases is not proportional to the true global need and burden.  The study revealed that “drug and disease research is disproportionately focused on medical conditions that predominantly afflict wealthy nations.”

The study authors expected to find at least a weak influence of disease burden on the research but discovered that a higher global need was associated with less research. The findings lead to the recommendation that greater investment be given to scientific research in poorer countries to increase studies on deserved diseases. To read the full article click here.
