On June 30, 2020, OHRP posted new decision charts for the revised Common Rule (2018 Requirements) on their website. These charts are intended to help decision-makers determine if research is considered human subjects research, if exemption categories apply, if continuing review is required, if documentation of consent can be waived, and if informed consent can be waived or altered under the 2018 Revised Common Rule Requirements. While the IRB has the final say, the charts are often useful for clients who may want to use the charts for planning purposes.
